Archos Launches The Free Version of its Video Player App

Archos Launches The Free Version of its Video Player AppRecently we talked about Archos, which in recent times announced a new tablet lineup ‘Platinum’ and launched three new tablets namely 116 Platinum, 97 Platinum HD and 80 Platinum under it. Well, in addition to tablet manufacturing, Archos has also been developing apps and Archos Video Player is one of them. The fact is, the app is a premium one and user has to pay Rs.299 /- to buy it. And recently, a free version of the app has been launched, which is ad-supported, as a result the application user will see ads during playbacks.

Archos Video Player premium app was launched in the month of December last year and received appreciations not only from its users but also from critics. However, the app couldn’t stand out possibly because of its hefty price i.e. $4.99 (Rs.299/-). Maybe it’s the reason why a free version of the app is introduced.

The free version has same features that the pro version has, but as earlier stated, it is supported by ads. The app comes with hardware accelerated video decoding support for virtually all devices and formats. The app has the ability to play contents from a PC or network storage in the LAN content and external sources like USB storage gadget. It can automatically retrieve information of films and Television shows with poster and background online. It comes with an integrated subtitle downloader. You can browse videos with library/folder based navigation system. The app is compatible with remote and keyboard.

The app works perfectly on Android 4.0.3 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher OS based gadgets and requires about 7 MB of your memory to be installed. If the ads shown in the app are none of your concern, then you are welcomed to download. To download the app, visit the Google App Store. If you are considering buying the premium version, then here is the link.

The app also comes preloaded in Archos tablets. And the recently announced tablets i.e.  116 Platinum, 97 Platinum HD and 80 Platinum have some remarkable features and specifications and apparently they are all same except the screen sizes, resolutions, weights and dimensions. Some of their features include IPS capacitive multitouch screen, 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor, 2 GB RAM, 8-core PowerVR SGX 544 GPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 8GB Inbuilt flash memory, 64GB expandable memory, 2MP auto focus camera at rear, webcam at front, H.264 HD & MPEG-42 HD video playback (up to 1080p @30fps), 3.5 mm Audio Jack, Built-in Microphone, 2 Built-in speakers, WiFi, Lithium Polymer battery etc.

Archos 97 Platinum HD and 80 Platinum are going to be available for sale later this month, whereas the 116 Platinum will be available from April. Archos 116 Platinum, 97 Platinum HD and 80 Platinum cost $349, $299 & $199 respectively.
